Armenian (Rock) musicians
Bambir
The band mainly performs songs by Gaguik Barseghian (nicknamed: Jag) in folk-rock style. Its repertoire also includes old Armenian traditional songs, some compositions made on the music by the great Armenian composer Komitas as well as modern interpretations of medieval sacred music. But on the whole "Bambir's" music is not purely Armenian. It falls into the broad genre of world music. In 1999 the band released its first CD (in the US) "Bambirquake" dedicated to the victims of the devastating earthquake of 1988. Now the band is planning to complete their second recording dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of adopting Christianity as State religion in Armenia. The folk-rock band "Bambir" is well known in Armenia as well as in a number of countries of the former USSR.
It has given concerts in Gyumri, Yerevan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, in Baltic countries, Moldova, Georgia. The Band has three times been to the USA for guest concerts. The leader of "Bambir" is Gaguik (Jag) Barseghian. He is a top song-writer who has the ability of describing situations as well as expressing feelings without resorting to the use of cliche or false poeticism. Jag's songs on Burns' lyrics are especially worth mentioning. His songs contain flashes of the old wit and are of high quality. There is something about just the sound of his voice that has made him, and consequently his band one of the most important performers around today.
